Eline Martherus (b. 1992) is an Amsterdam-based contemporary artist
and self-taught painter. With a natural fingerspitzengefuhl, she expresses herself best in the application of different materials, such as acrylic and oil paint, ecoline, wasco and dyed yarns.
From a young age Eline has had a good sense of geometry and technical mathematical forms. However, with the realization that these subjects tend to lean towards calculated precision as opposed to visualization, her interest quickly shifted to exploring her creativity. In her mind, this is all intertwined: materials are linked to forms and shapes, and forms and shapes are in turn linked to colors and textures. Her natural curiosity towards patterns, logic and geometric rules this way become apparent in her artistic practice.
Eline has obtained a diploma in Arts & design from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) with a specialisation in textiles. Eline’s work has been shown in Amsterdam, London and Bali.
